The Best Food Deals I Got at the Thai Supermarket Songkran Celebration!

I attended Thai Supermarket’s Songkran celebration at Aperia Mall on 12–13 April, and this year’s bash was extra special: they were turning 40! The vibe was full-on nostalgic with throwback touches from the 80s and 90s Thailand.
There were setups for photo booths, old-school popsicles, and even the games that Thai kids used to play. It looked and felt like a little slice of Bangkok right in an SG mall.
But of course, the highlight for me and many attendees was the Food Fiesta. Everything—from Thai snacks, street food, and traditional desserts—was available for, well, peanuts.
A Food Fair for Just S$4!

Yes, I gorged on Thai food without worrying about going home with an empty wallet and stomach. The portions are expectedly smaller than what they’d normally serve, but at just S$4 a pop, I didn’t hear anyone complaining!
I had bowls of pad Thai and pad see ew at the Slurp Noodle Bar, which were deliciously savoury and nutty as usual.
Next, I queued for some crispy crepes and was deliriously happy to get ten small ones stuffed with coconut cream and sweet egg floss yolk (yup, all for just S$4).
Since I had a bit more room for something sweet, I tried the crispy banana fritters at Talad Thai Banana (S$4 for six pieces!) and knew it was a nostalgic street snack done right. I brought the rest home to my family, much to their delight.
I was lucky to get to the fair early, as some stalls only had food stocks limited to the first 100 customers, such as the sweet potato balls and yam chips. They also gave out a hundred free Chang espresso beers for attendees to cool off!
A Colourful Blend of Culture, Food, and Retro Vibes

Aside from the food, there were traditional Thai dance performances, live Muay Thai showcases, and even a water gun zone for kids! It felt like a proper street fest, but with welcome air-conditioning.
The crowd was lively but chill. Families, couples, and groups of friends took advantage of the photo ops for the ‘gram. Music from the 80s and 90s added to the throwback feel.
What made the trip worth it, for me at least, was the mix of culture, food, and fun packed into one weekend. It went beyond being a market into a mini Thai holiday without leaving Singapore!
