The Best Horse Riding Clubs in Singapore: Recommendations from a Self-Proclaimed Horse Girl

As a child, I loved the movies Spirit and Seabiscuit—movies that happened to feature horses in them. Plus, I grew up with a healthy dose of fantasy films, which also had characters riding on horses most of the time.

I developed an obsession with horses, hence I was called the horse girl in my family. I begged my parents to give me horse-riding lessons, and now that I’m an adult, I’m taking every opportunity to ride a horse for fun.

Fortunately, there are many places in Singapore that let you enjoy horse riding—both as a beginner and pro. Here are some of my recommendations!

Singapore Polo Club

— From: singaporepoloclub

Address: 80 Mount Pleasant Rd

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—7 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +6568543999

Website

Having been operational since 1886, the Singapore Polo Club is the main advocator for polo and equestrian sports in the country. If you’re a member, you get to keep your ponies or horses at the stable or rent one from the club.

Usually, I come here just to play polo with my friends. I’m not really great at it, but it’s fun to play, so I don’t mind.

If you’re new to horse riding or polo, this club often hosts classes and other educational programs at The Riding Academy, so you can attend one to improve your horse riding skills.

Pro Tip:

  • There are fun events held at this club every month. Some of the ones you can expect are movie nights, themed celebrations (especially on holidays), and pony camps.

Gallop Stable

— From: gallopstableofficial

Address: 61 Pasir Ris Green

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday to Friday—10 to 11:30 am, 2 to 6:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—8 to 11:30 am, 2 to 6:30 pm

Contact Number: tel:+6565839665

Website

Located in Pasir Ris Park, Gallon Stable is one of the most accessible places to learn horse riding. In fact, even children as young as four years old are welcome to come here to start their horse-riding journey!

Gallop Stable is also perfect for experienced riders because it offers trail rides. One of the trail rides I went on was a tour near Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. We took on an off-road track, so our view was lush greenery. It was such a refreshing experience!

Sometimes there are even competitions here. I competed once, and though I didn’t win, I did have a blast, so I count that as a victory all the same.

Pro Tips:

Website

Founded in 1976, the Equestrian Federation of Singapore is a society dedicated to supporting equestrian athletes, coaches, and officials. Casual equestrian enthusiasts are also welcome to join and hone their horse-riding skills.

This society offers several programs. I’ve been taking their classes on show jumping and dressage, but there are also training programs for polo and riding. The riding classes here are taught by decorated competitive riders, so you just know you’re getting the best instruction.

Pro Tip:

  • If you want to get a behind-the-scenes look at competitive racing and other equestrian events, you might want to volunteer at this federation.

Have you ever heard of the term “horse therapy?” Well, now you have, and if you’re curious to learn more, you should check out Healing Horses Singapore.

The idea behind horse therapy is that riding a horse stimulates physical muscles, thus promoting core strength, coordination, and balance. It’s also believed to improve your self-esteem and confidence.

I’m no doctor, so I can’t say all this is factual, but what I can say is that riding horses here boosts my mood, especially when I’m feeling anxious. So maybe there’s some truth behind horse therapy.

Pro Tip:

  • Healing Horses allows stable visits for schools. Check this page for more information.

RDA Center

— From: rdasingapore

Address: 5 Jln Mashhor

Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday—8 am to 6:30 pm

Contact Number: +6562500176

Website

Horse riding isn’t just for able-bodied people. Even people with disabilities can learn how to ride horses—even ride them well enough to compete! That’s why Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Center exists.

I actually haven’t experienced riding here, but I have accompanied a disabled cousin during one of his sessions. The instructors are patient and compassionate, and I love that the lessons are slow-paced so that my cousin won’t feel pressured to catch up.

Pro Tips:

  • If you want to support this charity, you can become a member. As a member, you can enjoy perks like discounts on events.
  • Another way you can support them is by volunteering or donating

THERIS

Another great place you can go for horse therapy is THERIS, which stands for “therapeutic and educational riding in Singapore.” Though my cousin prefers the RDA Center most of the time, he does love coming here as well.

What I love about this center is that the session consists of many activities. Of course, riding is the most essential part, but you can also get to groom and feed the horse. Because of this, it’s easy to form a bond with your assigned horse!

Pro Tips:

  • While the sessions here are one-on-one, you can choose to book with a group. For more information, send an inquiry to [email protected]
  • They also welcome corporate programs that include a stable tour and horse play. Send an email if you’re interested.

Singapore Turf Club Riding Center

Contact Number: +6568791000

Located near the Kranji Marshes, Singapore Turf Club Riding Center operates the sport of professional horse racing. That said, this place also offers other fun equestrian activities, so casual horse enthusiasts will have an enjoyable time here.

In particular, you can book a riding lesson—even if you’re already a seasoned rider and just want to work on your horsemanship. My favorite part of the classes here is that they are tailored to your needs and preferences, so I can learn at my own pace.

Pro Tips:

  • If you’ve never ridden a horse before and aren’t sure if you want to commit to a class, you can take a trial ride first.
  • If you become a member of the club, you’ll be able to enjoy perks like discounts on riding lessons. For more information, send an inquiry to [email protected]
  • This club has many venues for hire that are perfect for special events.

Bukit Timah Saddle Club

Operating Hours: Tuesdays to Sundays—8:30 am to 6 pm

Contact Number: +6564662264

Bukit Timah Saddle Club is another great club that offers riding classes for riders of all levels. That’s why I love coming here with my little nieces and nephews. While they attend the beginner classes, I’m in my own class for experienced riders.

To make things better, this club doesn’t just offer classes in riding. There are also lessons on dressage and show jumping—right from beginner to advanced. I took beginner classes in both fields, and someday I’m hoping I can book the advanced classes.

Pro Tips:

  • You can become a member of the club. There are three tiers, each with its own unique perks.
  • The club is willing to host an event—from corporate team-building to birthdays and weddings.

Colts Polo and Riding

— From: coltspolo

Address: 1 Equestrian Walk

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday—7 am to 7:30 pm

Contact Number: +6596221059

Website

Most people think of polo and horse riding as activities that only the super rich can enjoy. That’s what Colts Polo and Riding is working hard to disprove. People of all backgrounds are welcome to enjoy polo and horse riding here.

I actually bring my little nieces and nephews here because the classes accept children as young as six. The classes include lessons on horse riding and the mechanics of a polo match.

Pro Tips:

  • If you’re fond of polo, you can join any of the fun polo experiences available here. These experiences include camps, polo holidays, and other exclusive programs.
  • Every quarter, the club hosts the Colts Family Cup, a competitive event. Feel free to watch the match—or even sign up to participate yourself!
