Late-Night Snacking with Friends at the Best Spots for Lok Lok in Singapore

Singapore is a paradise for foodies because there are many amazing food spots here—from Michelin-starred restaurants to humble hawker centers. But even though I have access to gourmet dishes, sometimes what I’m craving is a simple lok lok.

Originating in Malaysia, lok lok is a street food that consists of skewered foods that are either boiled in a steamboat, deep-fried, or grilled. It’s such a simple and affordable treat, and many spots are open late into the night, making it perfect for friend hangouts!

Are you craving lok lok as well? Or maybe you’ve never tried one and are now curious? Then you should visit these lok lok spots in Singapore.

If you’re in West Singapore, one of the best lok lok spots you should check out is DLLM LOKLOK.

The lok lok here is always deep-fried, and each stick is priced around S$1 no matter what the ingredient. I also love that there’s a good variety of sauces. My go-to choices are the sweet and savory, chili padi and lime, and salted egg.

My favorite lok lok to get is the smoked duck, which is tender and juicy. I also love to get the Taiwan sausage and deep-fried fish cake because they’re so springy and chewy.

Pro Tip:

  • Wash down the greasiness by ordering the tom yum ahma mee, which is a tom yum soup with instant noodles. It’s hearty and spicy.

Steamov

Address: 325 New Bridge Rd, #01-00

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—12 to 6 am, 12 pm to 12 am

Contact Number: +6594870508

Located in Outram Park, Steamov is best known as a hot pot restaurant. But this place also lets you order lok lok sticks to cook in the hot pot, which is why I’m featuring it on this list.

The main thing I love about this restaurant is that it has a conveyor belt, so you can just pick your favorite lok lok as it passes you. My recommendation is the salmon lok lok and the salmon balls with roe in the center.

For the broth, you have many options. I like the spicy pot simply because I love spicy things, but the mushroom and black chicken pot broth is also a great choice.

Pro Tip:

Fat Po

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday to Friday—12 to 10 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Located in the Punggol East Container Park, Fat Po is a restaurant that specializes in Western-Asian fusion dishes, and fortunately, lok lok is included in the menu!

The lok lok classic set consists of broccoli, prawns, and mushrooms, and they’re all so tender and succulent. I also like that they have a kick of spice as an aftertaste.

The only downside for me is that the lok lok set doesn’t come with sauces. It would’ve been nice if there was a dipping sauce that added a bit of savory and sweet flavors to the skewers.

Pro Tip:

  • This place can get crowded during the weekends. So I recommend coming here on a weekday instead.

串LokLok

Address: 11 Yishun Industrial Street 1, #01-120 Northspring Bizhub

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Sunday—4 pm to 1:30 am

Contact Number: +6596211099

串LokLok is situated all the way in Yishun, which is pretty far from the city center. But if you have the time to visit, you should definitely check it out.

The lok lok here is fried with batter, which I know not everyone likes, but personally, I don’t mind it. If anything, it enhances the dining experience because I love biting into the crunchy meat or vegetables.

There are also many homemade sauces here. I love getting the sweet and spicy ones and then mixing them for the ultimate flavor combinations.

Pro Tip:

  • I recommend driving to this place because it’s hard to reach if you’re using public transportation.

What makes LOK不LOK Bistro stand out is that it offers great lok lok combos. Because of this, it’s now one of my go-to spots for get-togethers with friends!

Currently, this place offers 35 types of lok lok, so we get overwhelmed every time we have to order. The ones I tend to order a lot are the bak kwa and broccoli and fish roe dumplings.

For the sauce, I recommend the all-in-one sweet-sour-spicy sauce, but the garlic sauce is also delicious.

  • For more fun, you and your friends can enjoy karaoke while eating your lok lok.Every Sunday to Thursday, you can score Heineken buckets for a discounted price!

Fei Zhu Lok Lok has a nice variety of lok lok skewers, which I appreciate. Most options are meat-based, but there are also vegetables and even vegetable-and-meat combo.

I really like the duck lok lok because it melts in my mouth like butter. I’m also fond of the seafood selection, especially the scallops, fried ebi, and squid. The scallops, in particular, are plump and sweet.

When I’m really hungry, I order a side of rice and then dump a spicy sauce onto it.

Pro Tip:

  • This spot can get busy in the evening (around 8 pm). I recommend coming here earlier to avoid getting stuck in line.

Malaysia Local Delights

— From: vivienneeluv

Address: 224 Tanjong Katong Rd

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—5 pm to 2 am

Contact Number: +6564408378

Outside, Malaysia Local Delights may seem humble, but inside, it’s a haven for lok lok lovers. This restaurant specializes in a rustic Malacca-style lok lok steamboat buffet, so you can eat as much as you want!

There are many choices here. I usually go with scallops, beef, and cheesy sotong balls, but I also like the spicy fish cake because of its spongy texture.

I love pairing the lok lok with the satay sauce because it adds a lovely nutty-sweet flavor to the dish.

Pro Tip:

  • Take advantage of the free flow of soft drinks and ice creams when you visit.

AK Zai Lok Lok

— From: jarylzhangjs

Address: 14 Smith St, Chinatown Point

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—1 to 3 pm, 5 pm to 12 am

Contact Number: +6586261439

AK Zai Lok Lok is another great spot to check out if you want a lok lok buffet!

This Chinatown restaurant boasts 40 types of lok lok. They have the classic options, such as the scallops and pork belly, but there are also unique offerings like the bacon-wrapped enoki.

The selection of sauces is also commendable. I really like the chili crab sauce because it combines sweet and spicy. The satay sauce is also delicious!

Pro Tips:

  • Come here during lunch because the price is cheaper compared to dinner.
  • For a fee, you can add a soup base for your lok lok skewers. Your flavor options include tom yum, curry, mala, laksa, and pork broth.
  • There’s a two-hour limit for the buffet. If you have more than five leftover skewers, you’ll be charged with wastage fees.

LokLok 1991’s by Daniel and Meng

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—6 pm to 1:30 am

LokLok 1991’s by Daniel and Meng is a tiny, unassuming stall, but it’s now become one of my favorite late-night spots to go to with my friends.

One thing I like about this stall is that you can choose how to season the lok lok skewers. Then they’re deep-fried on the spot, so they’re still hot and crunchy when you eat them.

I always get the sausage, broccoli, fish cake, and crab imitation. Sometimes I also order the cob of corn just to add some carbs to the mix.

Pro Tip:

  • If you want to drink beer with your lok lok, be sure to come here before 10:30 pm. The stall will stop selling beer after that time.
