Putien is renowned for its signature dish, the Hing Wa bee hoon (rice vermicelli), alongside other noodle classics. Its Putien mee sua features longevity noodles crafted through traditional methods, ensuring they remain firm when cooked.

My ravenous family found the deep-fried duck with yam a delightful fusion of flavours. It features tender duck meat encased in a crispy yam crust, which is a unique twist on traditional Cantonese zi char (small dishes).

Pro-tip: The noodle serving is generous enough for two people to share.

Northpoint Japanese food exists, thank goodness. Gokoku Japanese Bakery excels in freshly baked goods with most breads being simple yet made with high-quality ingredients, allowing the natural flavours to shine.

Don’t be overwhelmed by the variety; try the bestselling Mochi Mochi Cheese Bun, featuring mild, milky cheese cubes nestled within a wheat bun. Its natural sweetness shines without the need for additional accompaniments.

Pro-tip: Expect long-ish queues in the morning and around lunchtime.

At Riverside Grilled Fish, you select your fish, choose a flavour, and add sides. We opted for the signature spicy grilled sea bass, adding potatoes, instant noodles, cabbage, and beancurd skin for good measure.

The fish was fresh without a fishy taste and grilled to perfection—crispy skin without being burnt. Plus, most bones were already removed, making it convenient for lazy diners like us.

Pro-tip: You can request the staff to tone down the heat if you’re not into too-spicy flavours.

4Fingers Crispy Chicken (To Go)

4 Fingers Crispy Chicken is a pioneer of Korean-style fried chicken in Singapore since 2009. It’s also one of the Northpoint spots that’s halal-certified.

Offering soy garlic, hot, or mixed flavours, we recommend trying the mixed version to experience both. The hot flavour resembles KFC’s wings but is wetter and less flaky, while the soy garlic offers a delicious savoury taste.

Let’s just say that the sauce enhances the overall flavour of the chicken wings and the joint is pretty generous with it.

Pro-tip: Regular promos are available via the website.

Lu Xiao Xian specialises in crepes and boneless chicken feet, available in lemon, spicy, garlic, and mala flavours in a box (not quite what you’d expect of Northpoint food court fare, but we love it!).

The chicken feet were crunchy with a spicy, tangy, slightly sweet, and savoury marinade. Additionally, the restaurant offers pig trotters marinated in a lemon-passionfruit sauce.

Pro-tip: The menu has vegetable options like kelp, lotus, and vegi chic (plant-based chicken slices) for vegans and vegetarians.

Ramen doesn’t have to be crazy expensive as evidenced by Suparakki Ramen. It offers affordable bowls of noodles, all for under S$10!

If you like a collagen boost for your skin and nails, the Supa Signature Ramen with its tonkotsu broth is a must-try. It’s boiled for six hours and contains no MSG.

For dry noodles, go for the dry truffle ramen featuring a premium truffle-infused pork topping at a surprisingly wallet-friendly price (less than S$7!).

Pro-tip: Bring cash, as the place currently doesn’t accept credit card payments.

YUN NANS Stonepot Fish is Singapore’s first concept combining steamed fish and hotpot, serving pressure-steamed live fish in a collagen soup base. Watching your order get prepared is already a unique experience.

The granite pot is disinfected, fish and lime added, soup poured, and a cone-like lid placed. Steamed under high pressure for four minutes, it ensures quick and perfect cooking.

The result is an incredibly fresh fish with a clean taste with tender chunks falling off the bones!

The combo features grilled meats like chicken chop, a half slab of roasted BBQ pork ribs, lamb chop, and Iberico pork sausage.

But if you don’t want to gorge on meat, there’s also a sharing platter with a whole grilled barramundi fish and sections of corn on the cob, veggies, and fries as sides.
