Spring Blossoms 2025: A Journey into the Legend of the White Snake
Spring Blossoms, Legend of Lady White Snake
When: Friday, January 17 to Sunday, February 23, 2025 – 9 AM to 9 PM
Where: Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay
With Chinese New Year just around the corner, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than visiting Gardens by the Bay for their breathtaking Spring Blossoms floral display.
From 17 January to 23 February 2025, the Flower Dome transforms into an enchanting garden inspired by one of China’s most beloved tales, the Legend of the White Snake.
This story of love, sacrifice, and devotion between the snake spirit Bai Suzhen (Lady White Snake) and the mortal Xu Xian has captivated hearts for centuries, and now, it’s brought to life through stunning floral artistry.
Beyond the beauty, the exhibit is also a window into Chinese cultural heritage. Whether you’re familiar with the legend or experiencing it for the first time, it’s a chance to connect with a story that has been cherished for generations.

The moment I stepped into the Flower Dome, I was greeted by a 4.5-metre-tall floral sculpture of Lady White Snake herself.
Crafted with meticulous care using mosaiculture—an intricate horticultural art form that uses living plants to create 3D sculptures—this stunning centrepiece is nothing short of a masterpiece. It’s even more special knowing it was created in collaboration with Beijing Florascape, one of China’s leading landscaping companies.
But that’s just the beginning. The display features over 1,000 dahlias, including five new varieties showcased for the first time this year. Their vibrant blooms, symbolising prosperity and new beginnings, are a feast for the eyes and a perfect nod to the spirit of the Lunar New Year.

As I wandered through the display, it felt like stepping into the story itself. The recreation of Jixian Pavilion, where Lady White Snake and Xu Xian first met on the misty shores of West Lake, was especially magical.
The pavilion’s canopy, adorned with pink, orange, and yellow Kalanchoe blossfeldiana flowers, evoked the charm of springtime in Jiangnan. It’s the kind of spot where you can pause, take in the beauty, and let the romantic essence of the legend sweep over you.
Chinese Gardens

The journey through the Flower Dome also explores the evolution of Chinese gardens, which began as expansive imperial parks during the Zhou dynasty and eventually became intimate retreats for scholars by the Tang dynasty.
The artistry and symbolism of these gardens reached their peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the display reflects this rich history beautifully.
I was particularly drawn to the intricate pagoda models on display, loaned from the Asian Civilisations Museum. The Compassion and Longevity Pagoda and the Thunder Peak Pagoda hold deep connections to the legend, as these architectural landmarks are often featured in their myths and depictions.
