What to Do

Go fishing

It’s not every day you stumble upon a place in Singapore where you can just drop a line and see what bites.

I remember the first time I gave it a try. I wasn’t expecting much, just hoping for a peaceful afternoon by the water. But as it turns out, the pond is teeming with all sorts of fish, from tilapia to bighead carp!

What’s great about the freshwater fishing spot is that it’s open to everyone, from seasoned anglers to curious first-timers. Families, couples, and solo fishermen all gather around the pond, sharing tips and stories.

Picnic

One of my favourite weekend rituals is packing up a picnic basket and heading to Pasir Ris Town Park with family or friends. The open grassy areas are perfect for spreading out a blanket and just enjoying the simple pleasure of a meal outdoors.

A tip I’ve picked up over time is to bring along a frisbee or a ball. There’s plenty of space for a bit of fun after eating. The kids love it, and even the adults get in on the action.

Stroll through the mangrove boardwalk

I love strolling on the mangrove boardwalk, where the dense mangrove trees create a natural canopy overhead. It’s a great spot to pause and take in the unique ecosystem, especially if you’re into birdwatching or just enjoy the serenity of being close to nature.

As you continue along the boardwalk, keep an eye out for the resident wildlife. I’ve been lucky enough to spot kingfishers darting between the branches and even the occasional monitor lizard sunning itself on the path.

Enjoy the playground

The children’s playground at Pasir Ris Town Park is thoughtfully designed, with a variety of features that cater to kids of all ages. There are swings, slides, and climbing structures that seem to call out to kids the moment we arrive.

I love how the playground is set in a spacious, open area with plenty of room for the kids to run around. The nearby trees offer a bit of shade, so I can sit on a bench and watch the little ones, knowing they’re having a great time in a safe environment.

Jog or cycle along paved paths

I enjoy taking a jog along the paved paths that wind through the park. The paths are well-maintained and wide enough that you never feel cramped, even when the park starts to get busier later in the day.

Cyclists can go on a leisurely ride through different sections, from the more open spaces to the shaded areas near the mangroves. I love how the route is a mix of straight stretches where you can pick up speed and gentle curves that make the ride interesting.

Try prawning

Prawning at Pasir Ris Town Park is one of those activities that I never knew I needed until I tried it. On a whim, I decided to give it a go one weekend, and it quickly became a favourite way to unwind.

The dedicated prawning ponds are tucked away in a quiet corner of the park, offering a serene escape from the usual hustle. The ponds are well-stocked, so even beginners like me can expect to reel in a few prawns with a bit of patience.

And the best part? You get to cook your catch on the spot! The facility provides grills, so after a successful session, you can immediately enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Go bird watching

The variety of bird species here is truly impressive, and every visit feels like a new adventure. One of the first birds I spotted with my trusty binoculars was the majestic grey heron, gracefully wading through the shallow waters near the mangroves.

Then there are the colourful kingfishers, darting between branches and occasionally diving into the water to catch their breakfast.

There’s also the cheerful chorus of the sunbirds, flitting about the flowering shrubs, and the occasional call of a white-bellied sea eagle soaring overhead.

Get fit

The park’s fitness corner is a bit of a hidden gem within the park, tucked away in a quiet area where you can focus on your routine without too many distractions. It’s equipped with a variety of basic exercise stations—things like pull-up bars, parallel bars, and even some resistance machines.

Groups of people also choose to work out together or do yoga classes in this corner.

It’s a far cry from the usual gym environment, and I find that the fresh air and open space add a refreshing element to my routine.

Explore the nature trails

Trail Guide

The nature trails take you through some of the park’s quieter areas, where you can truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The beauty of these trails is in their simplicity. There’s no rush, no noise, just the peaceful rhythm of nature all around you.

You’re surrounded by lush greenery, with the rustling of leaves and the occasional bird call creating a soothing soundtrack. As a bonus: there have been occasional sightings of otters near the water bodies!
